  • Charles Smith, head of Veterans Affairs, said Friday that the Wilmington design firm of David R. Polston has been hired to design a Veterans Home Nursing facility, which could hold between 100 and 120 beds and bring up to 130 jobs to the Kinston area  The majority of those positions would be in nursing, since the nursing home would provide care to highly disabled veterans, but employees are also needed to perform functions such as administration, food service, maintenance, laundry and others. Smith said Kinston was chosen because of its central location in the east, its proximity to medical centers in Greenville, and the proximity of major military bases such as Fort Bragg in Fayetteville and Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville.
  • Massey Motor Company has out grown their location calling for a new facility that will be opening by the end of July.  The location will occupy nine and a half acres and the new showroom and garage will have 28,000 sq. ft.  Randy Kelly, owner, said the new location will make shopping for an automobile fun and he looks forward to serving the people of Eastern NC.

  • East Farm Credit Bank is consolidating its Kinston and Goldsboro branches into one centralized facility.  The new location will be near the intersection of Highway 70 and the Jim Sutton Road. ECFC is a farmer-owned financial cooperative, providing credit to members in Central and Eastern North Carolina. The new location will be serving Lenoir, Jones and Wayne Counties.

  • Smithfield Foods announced on October 13, 2004 plans to invest $85million and create 206 new jobs in a second location in Lenoir County.  On November 2, 2006 dignitaries of the Smithfield Foods Company joined with their employees and other dignitaries to celebrate the opening of the new Smithfield Kinston II Plant that is a 240,000 Square Foot facility situated on 87 acres in the70 West Industrial Park on Smithfield Way.  This modern facility uses advanced technologies that include use of an automated French water cook system that minimizes human contact with food and reduces water consumption by 80 percent.

  • On November 21, 2005 John Ranieri, Vice President of DuPont’s Bio-based Materials announced the company’s plans to expand its Sorona manufacturing to Lenoir County.  Sorona is a corn-based polymer fiber that is currently used in the production of carpet.  This is a $55 Million Investment with 66 new jobs over 3 years.  DuPont came to Lenoir County in 1953 with the world’s first polyester plant. The location of this DuPont Sorona plant is on NC 11 North and shares space within the Unifi Manufacturing Plant.
  • Neuse Regional WASA's $138.7 million water treatment plant and distribution system is a $58 million plant designed to combine the use of surface water from the Neuse River and the use of groundwater to cost-effectively optimize resources in the region. The plant will be operational in fall 2008 and will provide a reliable water supply source for approximately 100,000 customers.
  • LaGrange Town Hall will be getting a new makeover.  The town board approved a plan to expand the LaGrange Town Hall.  The addition will be used as a meeting space with construction beginning in two to three weeks from today.  March 7 2007.
  • New development continues in the area with the construction of Dr. Saracino’s new Medical Office and Endoscopy Center on North Herritage Street.  Dr. Saracino is very pleased to be expanding his practice in Kinston and stated "I will be doing office Endoscopy, which will be at a significant cost savings to the patient. My goal is to heighten awareness of GI cancer and to help to wipe them out of Eastern North Carolina.  The tentative completion date is end of June 2007  
  • September 22, 2005 Kinston’s Electrolux Home Products plant announced plans to invest $18 million in new state-of-the-art equipment for a new dishwasher product line and add 97 skilled jobs at its Kinston facility.   In a printed press release from Governor Easley office, Keith McLoughlin, CEO of Electrolux Major Appliance Division in North and Latin America said...."Our experience at the Kinston factory shows that we can produce the extremely high quality product that research shows consumers of these premium dishwashers insist upon."  Electrolux first came to Lenoir County in 1989.  The facility has approximately 500,000 Square Feet under roof and employs over 800 people

  • New Breed Inc., a major logistics and supply chain management company is setting up operations at the GTP. New Breed provides storage and distribution services for clients such as Verizon Wireless, The Boeing Company, Panasonic, Siemens Medical Solutions, the U.S. Postal Service and the U.S. Marine Corps
  • Allegiant Air offers low cost service to Orlando on Mondays and Fridays from the Kinston Regional Jetport.  A 150 passenger, MD-80 series aircraft, free parking at the Kinston Regional Jetport, low priced airline tickets is a nice combination offered right here in Kinston.  For more information go to www.allegiantair.com   
  • In addition to general medical, surgical, and obstetrical and gynecological care, Lenoir Memorial Hospital offers specialized services including cardiology, pulmonology, oncology, radiology and urology. LMH recently added Thoracic and vascular surgery. With a medical staff of over 100 physicians, Lenoir Memorial offers a range of specialty services and technology you would only expect to find at hospitals in larger cities.  
  • Alsco is a commercial and industrial laundry business located at 717 Summit Avenue that has been in Lenoir County for more than 40 years.  Alsco (formerly called Servitex, Local Linen, and East Carolina Linen) announced in February 2005 plans to invest an additional $1.5 million in new laundry equipment and add 55 new jobs at their Kinston plant just off Highland Avenue.

  • Lenoir County Economic Development announced 170 new jobs and $7,650,000 in capital investment in 2006. Companies included are Lenox China, Ferguson Enterprises, Cohaire and Spatial Integrated Systems
  • The Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library is undergoing a major expansion and renovation project to better meet needs of the more than 1,000 people who visit the Library each day. Follow the Library's progress by visiting their website at www.neuselibrary.org. The expected completion date is late Fall 2007
  • The Farmer and the Chef Restaurant and the Broken Eagle Restaurant opened their doors in downtown Kinston in 2006. Recently the Wine and Cheese Emporium moved to Heritage Street and is serving coffee as well
